Connor Taylor’s exit from Bristol Rovers has been officially confirmed with the centre-back returning to League One to join Wycombe Wanderers.
The defender’s sale is understood to have generated a healthy profit on the reported £300,000 Rovers paid for him from Stoke City in 2023 with the BBC reporting the fee is in excess of £500,000. Bristol Live understands the deal has numerous contingency fees.
Over two spells, the 23-year-old made 136 appearances for the Gas having first joined as a loanee ahead of the 2021/22 League Two promotion season.
Taylor was an integral part of that squad and returned to BS7 in 2023 on a permanent basis having had a taste of Championship football back at Stoke.
The centre-back played 48 times across all competitions last campaign and was named the Gas’ player of the season despite it ending in relegation. He scored winning goals against Bolton Wanderers and Weston-super-Mare in the FA Cup.
In an official statement, Rovers said: “Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to thank Connor for all of his efforts during his time with the club and wish him every success in his future career.”
Wycombe head coach Mike Dodds said in Wycombe’s statement: “Connor is a brilliant capture for us and he’s someone with really good experience at this level, despite still being at a young age.
“He’ll bring extra steel into the team as well as his height, ability on the ball and strong defensive attributes so we’re delighted he’s agreed to join us and look forward to working with him.”
Rovers are understood to be targeting at least one addition to the backline before the transfer window closes on September 1 to fill the gap left by Taylor
