Italy-based travel management company BizAway has joined Spain’s Guild of European Business Travel Agents (GEBTA) as the TMC looks to expand its presence in the country.

BizAway already has offices in the Spanish cities of Barcelona and Vigo and is currently the 15th largest TMC in Spain, according to BTN Europe’s Leading TMCs 2025 report. In April, the company also acquired Spanish TMC Aervio to boost its tech capabilities.

“Spain is BizAway’s second market in terms of booking volume, and remains a strategic country in our expansion plan,” said the company’s head of sales Giovanni Bernadi.

“GEBTA has always been an institution, thanks to its deep understanding of the corporate travel market in the region… For this reason, we are proud to join this organisation and keep consolidating our presence in this region,” he said.

GEBTA director general Marcel Forns Bernhardt said the inclusion of BizAway is “a strategic step” for both the association and the company, noting that Spain’s economy currently shows “stronger indicators and greater dynamism” compared to neighbouring markets.

According to data from the GEBTA Observatory, overall business travel volumes in Spain experienced a “modest” 1.3 per cent year-on-year increase in the first quarter, largely driven by the SME segment, which recorded a 3.5 per cent rise in bookings compared to the previous year.

Forns Bernhardt said Spanish SMEs “remain very active”, particularly within the domestic market. However, he cautioned that escalating travel costs and geopolitical uncertainties are prompting companies – especially large corporations – to scrutinise international travel decisions more closely.

“In such a context, more efficient, safe and sustainable solutions for corporate mobility are in demand and we are happy to welcome Bizaway within GEBTA,” Forns Bernhardt said. “Together with the rest of our member TMCs, Bizaway will certainly add value to GEBTA’s proposal and provide the tools and assistance that the local market demands.”
