Argentina prop Eduardo Bello has extended his stay with Newcastle Falcons, signing a new one-year deal with the Kingston Park club.

The 29-year-old tight-head has been capped 26 times by his country, scoring one try in his 16 appearances for Newcastle since helping Saracens to the Gallagher Prem title.

Missing the last club season after sustaining an ACL injury playing for his country, Bello hails from the city of Villa Maria in Cordoba province, moving to the UK after five seasons in Italy with Zebre.

Director of rugby Steve Diamond said: “Eduardo has worked hard battling back from a serious knee injury picked up when he was playing really well for Argentina, and it will be great having him on board for the new season.

“When he’s fit he’s a starting tight-head for a tier-one nation, and he’ll add to the competition we’ve got on that side of the scrum.”

Bello, whose wife Maria Florencia and daughter Amapola are both settled on Tyneside, said: “I enjoy being in Newcastle, and my family and I are very happy to extend my stay.

“It’s been a hard year not being able to play after injuring my knee, but I’m determined to make a big contribution during what is a really exciting time for the club.”
