A notice of forfeiture has been placed on the front door of a Liverpool city centre pub. The Liffey pub, part of the Grand Central building on Renshaw Street, has been a firm fixture on the city’s nightlife scene for years.

The venue had closed at the end of March 2022 after a rent dispute involving a former tenant. However, with new owners and a £200,000 refurbishment, the pub reopened on March 17, 2023. Pictures taken today (August 6) by the ECHO show a notice of forfeiture on the front door.

Nextdom served official notice of forfeiture of the lease to venue operator Crosbie Bar Ltd, which was effective from July 14, 2025.

The notice reads: “Pursuant to the terms of the lease dated 18th October 2023 and common law the landlord has peacefully re-entered the premises and forfeited the lease.”

Despite stating it is open on Google, the number listed for The Liffey did not connect when the ECHO attempted to ring. The pub has not posted on its Facebook page since June 27, 2025.

The ECHO has attempted to contact The Liffey and Nextdom for further information.

The Liffey has been described as a “authentic Irish bar” by visitors and has a 4.5 review on Tripadvisor. Its latest review on the site reads: “The Liffey on Renshaw street is a fantastic Irish pub that serves in my opinion the best Guinness in the city centre.
