Leeds United transfer rumours latest, including updates on Ritsu Doan, Mateo Joseph, and Bilal El Khannouss.

The transfer window has around four weeks remaining for the 49ers and Leeds United, who are continuing to look for players in the market as more serious transfer news emerges to add to their seven summer signings.

A busy end to the summer still lies ahead at Leeds as Daniel Farke looks to improve several areas of the side, with the Leeds squad getting closer to completion and feeling more ready ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League.

Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Sean Longstaff, Anton Stach, and Lucas Perri have all bolstered Leeds’ ranks in recent months, meaning they are making plenty of progress but more are still set to follow.

In the meantime, with vital weeks ahead for the recruitment team and with Farke’s team in pre-season ahead of Everton visiting Elland Road, here we have taken a look at some of the latest transfer news and the biggest headlines coming out of the club.

In recent weeks, Leeds United News exclusively revealed that Mateo Joseph is keen on a return to Spain. That was before Farke confirmed Joseph is not in his plans following the Villarreal pre-season draw on Saturday.

Celta Vigo have also joined the Joseph race of late, but there has been serious interest in Joseph from Real Betis for quite some time now. The La Liga duo appeared to be the likeliest destinations for Joseph.

However, Graham Smyth said a loan for Joseph was most likely to be the outcome and a different La Liga side seem to have won the race as RCD Espanyol are the team closing in on Joseph on a straight loan deal with no buy option or obligation.

Ritsu Doan disappointment emerges for Leeds United

Smyth has explained ambitious ‘reach’ signings are still a part of the club’s transfer strategy, as the 49ers are now targeting forwards to end the transfer window. However, they have already missed out on some targets.

Igor Paixao is one but one other player Leeds have missed out is SC Freiburg’s Ritsu Doan. We suggested that Doan be someone Leeds consider last month, given his ability to operate as a No.10 or out wide on the right as a left-footed and inverted winger.

The Japanese international playmaker is a teammate of Ao Tanaka’s. Smyth now claims Leeds have missed out on Doan this summer in his newsletter. Champions League interest from Eintracht Frankfurt was too much for Leeds to compete with.

It’s already been claimed that Bilal El Khannouss’ wage demands will not be an issue for Leeds. That was before it was said Leeds held a meeting with El Khannouss’ camp last week.

The other club with the strongest interest in the player appears to be Crystal Palace who like El Khannouss and see him as a potential Eberechi Eze replacement. However, Leeds are not at a disadvantage for El Khannouss against Palace.

That is in spite of their involvement in European competition this forthcoming season. It’s also been claimed that El Khannouss is very much open to a move to Leeds ahead of yet another meeting with the Whites on Thursday.
