CMP Print has invested in a Horizon BQ-500 iCE four clamp perfect binder, supplied by Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS). The investment supports the company’s continued growth in its short-run digital book production.

Based in Dorset, the book printer specialises in services for both publishers and self-publishing authors, producing a range of soft and hardback books in black and white, full colour, or a combination of both. The company, which was founded in 1995, aims to deliver cost-effective and high-quality publishing solutions.

The new machine follows a previous investment 18 months ago in a Horizon HT-300 iCE Trimmer, also from IFS, which was operating nearline to the company’s Horizon BQ-470 binder.

“We have seen a lot of growth in the short run book sector over the past 24 months. The HT-300 was the start and the Horizon BQ-500 iCE Binder will solidify our ability to effectively service that even further,” said Richard Johnson, operations director at CMP Print.

“We’ve worked with IFS previously and knew that the BQ-500 was our best choice for short run digital book production and would deliver high quality and quick turnaround capabilities. It was perfect for our needs,” added Mr Johnson. “We also liked the fact that it was designed to be more accessible for our staff. This enables operators from different shift patterns to run it.”

The Horizon BQ-500 iCE includes the cloud-based iCE LiNK workflow tool, enabling real-time production analysis, remote updates, and scheduled maintenance via a centralised dashboard.

“We looked at the investment strategically over the years and, while we want to achieve return on investment in as short a time as possible, the decision was made primarily based on securing longevity of quality for our client base,” said Mr Johnson.
