There is expected to be both incomings and outgoings at Manchester United before the end of the transfer window.
Ruben Amorim has so far added three new players to his squad in the summer window. Matheus Cunha completed a £62.5 million move from Wolves early in the window.
He was later joined by Bryan Mbeumo, who joined from Brentford for a fee that could rise to £71 million. The club have also signed young left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno, although he is seen as one more for the future.
United now appear to be closing in on their fourth new arrival. MEN Sport understands that the club are confident that RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko prefers a move to Old Trafford over Newcastle.
The two clubs have been locked in a transfer battle for the Slovenia international over the last few days, but United look to have taken the lead in the race. Negotiations with Leipzig are ongoing with the club making a bid of €75 million (£65.3m) plus €10 million (£8.7m) in add-ons.
It seems that United are already planning for their next transfer move once a deal for Sesko is wrapped up. The Athletic report that United are showing an interest in Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, and have made contact with the Seagulls over a possible move.
Brighton are expected to put up a fight to keep their player this summer. He has three years remaining on his contract at the Amex Stadium.
Should United push through with their interest, another transfer could help them provide the perfect gift for Baleba if he arrives at Old Trafford.
Winger Alejandro Garnacho is expected to leave the club this summer, and has not been involved in pre-season preparations with the rest of Amorim’s squad as he looks to sort a move away. Chelsea are the club to be most heavily linked.
The Argentine has worn squad number 17 since the start of the 2023/24 season. That’s the same number that Baleba has chosen to wear for Brighton for this upcoming campaign, changing from his usual number 20.
If Garnacho leaves United as expected this summer, then it will leave the number 17 shirt number free for Baleba to take, ensuring that his choice for the new season stays the same even if he does move clubs.
