Longview, Wash.Astound, a recognized leader in internet, Wi-Fi, mobile, TV, and fiber-optic solutions, today announced a major initiative to expand high-speed internet access to more than 40,000 homes and 5,000 businesses in predominantly rural areas of western Washington and Oregon by the end of this year.

As of August 5, 29,000 homes across Longview, Kelso, Castle Rock, Oak Harbor and Camano Island, Washington as well as Oregon communities in Columbia County, including St. Helens, Rainier, Deer Island, and Clatskanie have access to reliable internet and Wi-Fi with speeds up to 1 gigabit per second. The 11,000 remaining homes and 5,000 businesses will launch by year-end.

Astound is investing $4 million in this expansion, focused on rapidly deploying fixed wireless broadband to several regions of Washington and Oregon, including some areas that currently lack direct access to fast, reliable Wi-Fi and internet. Fixed wireless technology is engineered specifically to overcome the barriers of rural geography and poor legacy infrastructure. Unlike mobile-based or satellite options, it delivers fast, low-latency, professionally installed broadband that performs reliably in real-world conditions that involve such variables as dense trees, hills, or long distances from fiber hubs. This initiative is part of Astound’s broader commitment to bridge the digital divide and deliver connectivity to communities that have long faced limited options.

Astound’s fixed wireless offering will quickly extend its high-speed Wi-Fi services to homes in areas without direct access to its physical fiber network. It delivers high-speed connectivity designed to seamlessly support video conferencing, streaming, online learning, remote work, and more digital experiences. Moreover, its deployment can occur in a matter of days, using existing towers or poles, as compared to timelines of months or longer that traditional fiber construction requires.

Coverage areas include

  • Southwest Washington: Kelso, Longview, Castle Rock, Kalama, Silver Lake, Winlock, Woodland, Vader, Toutle, Greenbank, Ridgefield
  • Northwest Washington: Whidbey Island (Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Greenbank, Langley), Camano Island, LaConner, Mount Vernon, Stanwood
  • Northwest Oregon: Rainier, St. Helens, Columbia City, Deer Island, Clatskanie

“The rollout of Astound’s expanded internet platform underscores our belief that all communities deserve access to fast and reliable internet and WiFi,” said Jared Sonne, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Astound West Region. “This offering is ideal for areas that have long suffered from slow speeds, congestion, or lack of choice. Our goal is to deliver a dependable service that supports remote work, online learning, telehealth, and everyday digital life.”
