Free gym classes are being given away to people in the region on one condition. Barry’s Liverpool, found on the fifth floor of the flagship Flannels store, is wanting to continue building community in the city and give something back as part of its ongoing programming.
As part of this, the Parker Street gym is inviting a particular group of people to participate in their popular classes for free. The classes will be as usual for Barry’s classes, except for those with a particular career field.
From Monday, August 11 to Sunday, August 17, firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue and all local stations in Liverpool, will be able to join the classes for free. The offer extends to current and retired firefighters.
Barry’s trainer Leyton Wright, told the ECHO: “This Hell Week, we’re inviting our city’s current and retired fire and rescue service to put their training to the test at Barry’s Liverpool by signing up for next week’s challenge for free.
“Seven classes in seven days is no mean feat but we’re giving them the chance to push their fitness and resilience—while facing the heat of the Red Room. We can’t wait to put them through their paces and thank them for all they do for us.”
Firefighters will need to show proof of identification at the desk in the studio to get set up and have credits added onto their account. For everyone else, there’s no special Hell Week package needed.
Guests can join with any class pack or membership. Anyone who completes Hell Week can earn an Exclusive LSKD Trucker Hat + 700 Academy Stars in the Barry’s loyalty programme.

The new initiative comes after the ECHO spoke with Barry’s executive chairman and why he believes the fitness studio has managed to build a cult-like following in the city.
Joey Gonzalez: “I think Barry’s and Liverpool have similar values and a similar approach to life. Barry’s us very ‘work hard but play hard’ and I think that resonates here within this community. It’s for people who work hard but love having fun.
“Barry’s has a reputation of being challenging and it’s not the easiest of options out there, but I think something people might not realise is that you don’t have to be fit to come here.
“You can find fitness here and we often say to people who have their first class, just take it easy, don’t be a hero, go at your own pace, you’re going to have fun and find a community that supports you.
“Liverpool is our first partnership within a department store, which was really interesting and fun. It’s allowed us to find a lot of really great brand partners locally here in Liverpool.
