Forecasters are warning of another heatwave for the start of next week.

West Yorkshire Police has now issued advice to residents in a bid to tackle burglaries.

A force spokesperson said: “As the temperatures rise, so do opportunities for burglars.

“Open windows, unlocked doors and poor lighting can make your home an easy target – especially under the cover of darkness.”

They added: “Lock all ground floor windows and doors.

“Keep valuables – especially car keys – out of sight.

“Consider installing dusk-to-dawn lighting.

“Make sure your property is well-lit and visible.

“Remember – offenders don’t want to be seen.

“Let’s not make it easy for them.”
