Hempstead, NY – Hofstra men’s basketball alum Elijah Pemberton has been named to USA Basketball’s 12-man roster for the 2025 FIBA Men’s AmeriCup. This marks the second time that Pemberton will represent his country in international competition.
The tournament will take place August 22-31, 2025, in Managua, Nicaragua.
Pemberton was also a member of the 2022 USA Men’s AmeriCup Team that earned a bronze medal in Recife, Brazil.
The USA will hold training camp Aug. 12-18 in Miami, before traveling to Managua to open the tournament against Bahamas on Aug. 23 at 5:40 p.m. ET. The USA will also face Uruguay (Aug. 24, 11:10 p.m. ET) and Brazil (Aug. 26, 9:10 p.m. ET) in pool play.
The inaugural FIBA Men’s AmeriCup was held in 1980 and has been held biennially since 1993. The USA has won gold seven times and earned bronze in 2022.
The FIBA Men’s AmeriCup features 12 teams distributed into three, four-team groups. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place teams, will advance to the quarterfinals. The eight advancing teams will be ranked 1-8 based on their final position in the Group Phase.
Pemberton, a 2020 Hofstra graduate with a degree in management, has played professionally since his graduation.
Pemberton ranks ninth all-time at Hofstra with 1,982 career points and fourth with 215 three-pointers. A two-time All-CAA honoree, Pemberton also earned NABC All-District and All-Met honors as a senior and All-Met accolades as a junior as well. He was a member of Hofstra’s 2020 CAA Championship team.
