Chelsea have been one of the busiest Premier League teams in the transfer market this summer, with the Blues bringing a host of new faces to Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca will hope to build on last season, with Chelsea signing Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato and Liam Delap to bolster the squad at the Italian manager’s disposal.

With the seemingly endless number of new faces at the West London club, and the promise of more signings as Chelsea close in on Alejandro Garnacho, the books need to be balanced.

While the new Chelsea signings may have been making headlines, the London club have also been effective in balancing Maresca’s squad by selling unneeded players.

The latest confirmed deal is Armando Broja’s sale to Burnley, with the Albania international moving to Turf Moor for a fee in the region of £20 million.

The 23-year-old was surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and the Blues have helped to offset their summer spending by cashing-in on the striker.

Chelsea rival Liverpool on player sales front

Broja is the latest in a long line of fringe men leaving Stamford Bridge this summer, with Chelsea selling Noni Madueke to Arsenal the biggest revenue raiser for the Blues.

The pair join the likes of Joao Felix, Djordje Petrovic, Lewley Ugochukwu and Kepa Arrizabalaga in departing Chelsea, with the West London club bringing in more than £150 million this summer in transfer fees.

This has largely flown under the radar, however, with one of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals largely being praised for their shrewd operations instead.

Liverpool have been widely lauded for their summer business, especially as they have funded the purchases of new players by selling fringe men for premium fees.

The Premier League champions continue to try and improve Arne Slot’s squad, with Reds sporting director Richard Hughes working hard to offset new additions by selling the likes of Luis Diaz, Tyler Morton and Jarell Quansah for handsome prices.

However, when the summer window closes and each club’s respective business is assessed, it may well be Chelsea that are gaining more plaudits than Liverpool – with shrewd sales like that of Broja playing a key role in balancing the books.
