Multiple people have allegedly been shot in New York’s iconic Times Square as terrifying footage circulates on social media.
There has been a huge police response in the popular tourist area in the centre of the Big Apple.
According to reports, bodies were left strewn across the street following the incident which occurred during the night.
Claims that three people were shot and one person was taken into custody have emerged online, but officials from the New York Police Department are yet to confirm this, reports the Daily Star.
One person claimed he witnessed the terror and posted a clip online stating three people were shot in New York on Saturday morning, with bullets piercing car windows.
They said posting on X, formerly Twitter: “Three people have been shot in the heart of Times Square. Bodies are on the ground, bullet holes pierce car windows. The chaos unfolded near a major tourist area. One suspect is in custody.”
Information shared on social media states that three people have been injured in the incident, and that one person has been taken into custody. However, police are yet to issue a statement on the incident.

The alleged shooting comes just days after a major mass shooting in a Midtown Manhattan skyscraper.
The shooter, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, Nevada, killed four people before taking his own life on July 27 while wielding an assault rifle in the heart of the city.
New York City police officer Didarul Islam was among those who died in the horror attack.
