Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing up a double loan move for highly-rated Manchester United duo Harry Amass and Toby Collyer, according to the Star.

Sheffield Wednesday are once again in crisis, with players and staff still unpaid for July. Protests are planned for the club’s opening fixture of the season against Leicester City, piling even more pressure on SWFC owner Dejphon Chansiri to sell.

Preparations for the 2025/26 campaign have been thrown into chaos. Following a string of departures, the squad has been stripped to the bone — Henrik Pedersen may have just 16 senior players available, with academy prospects waiting in the wings.

A transfer embargo has shackled them all summer, but that was lifted on Friday night. However, money is still tight, meaning loanee and frees are more likely and some could be coming through the door soon after the latest SWFC news.

According to the Star, Sheffield Wednesday are looking into a double loan move for Manchester United pair Toby Collyer and Harry Amass. The Telegraph had initially reported interest in Amass, but Collyer is also part of Wednesday’s pursuit.

The pair are likely to be available on loan in the final month of the window but are held in high regard by Manchester United. However, it is unknown whether they would want to send their young stars to Sheffield Wednesday right now.

Amass and Collyer would be a good start to a massive job

Sheffield Wednesday face a mammoth task ahead of them this season after a disastrous summer. Starting with the disappearance and then departure of Danny Rohl, and now with a very small first-team squad, preparations could not have gone much worse this summer.

Wednesday will need to be very shrewd with any business they do manage to do this month. A double swoop for Amass and Collyer would certainly be that for SWFC.

The pair had parts to play in Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United squad last year and could definitely help SWFC. Getting the deals over the line though, could be very tough for Wednesday.

The task at hand for Sheffield Wednesday

Under Chansiri’s ownership, this season looks like it will be a drag for Sheffield Wednesday sadly. Unless something is done on that side of things, it is hard to see much positivity around them at the moment.

However, there is still light and the end of the tunnel and players like Barry Bannan clearly see something in the club still. If they can get more bodies in come the end of August, they will stand a chance of survival.

Fans will need to stick with the players as much as they can. Hopefully that faith can be repaid and SWFC do not have a season to forget.
