Two months ago, we covered claims from Spain that Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers would have to compete with Brentford for Getafe’s Christantus Uche this summer.

On July 15th, AS reported Brighton & Hove Albion have joined Leeds and Wolves in the tussle for the 22-year-old. They also stated he has a €25m release clause in his contract.

A fresh report from AS now covers the latest on Uche’s future and Leeds United is the only club to get a mention.

The Nigeria international arrived at the La Liga club from AD Ceuta FC in February 2024. Last season, he was mainly used as a striker or attacking midfielder [his preferred role], scoring four goals and registering eight assists from 37 games.

His contract expires in 2028, with an option for another year. Despite this, the newspaper reports the versatile player’s future is ‘up in the air’.

It’s claimed Uche was destined to move to the UK, where Leeds are the main contender. AS, however, reports the Whites haven’t come close to meeting the fee demanded by the Spanish club, which is €25m.

The newspaper states: ‘Getafe knows they have a gem in Uche and won’t give him away.’

This could either be a tactic or their genuine stance, and either way, Leeds United have to pay €25m to secure Uche’s services.
