Leeds United are sweating on the fitness of Jayden Bogle ahead of the clash with Everton.

Bogle missed the Whites’ last two pre-season friendlies against Villarreal (2 August) and AC Milan (9 August) with a hip flexor issue.

Daniel Farke desperately needs his starting right-back to be fit for the season opener, as he is a crucial player for the newly-promoted side.

He notched six goals and four assists in the Championship promotion-winning campaign and is expected to step up in the Premier League, when he returns to action.

Bogle was a notable absentee for Leeds from the clash with the Serie A side, sparking concerns over his availability for the opener.

LUTV commentator Bryn Law picked up on that fact live on air during the contest and aired his worry over the issue being a long-term one.

He said: “Down the right-hand side is one of the problem areas for Leeds United, still no Jayden Bogle. It might be a little while until we see him back again. There is an issue to be resolved there.”

Isaac Schmidt is the obvious replacement for Bogle in the Whites’ squad, but he is a huge downgrade on Bogle at the moment.

The Swiss ace struggled against the Italian outfit after previously catching the ire of Joe Rodon and Farke against Villarreal.

He was eventually hooked for Sam Byram, and the Peacocks can not afford for him to be starting against the Toffees based on the evidence from pre-season.

The former St Gallen man seemed to be heading out on loan to Werder Bremen, but depending on the extent on Bogle’s injury, he may be needed.

The former Sheffield United star faces a race against time to be fit for the Elland Road contest on 18 August.

Speaking in his post-match press conference after the 1-1 draw with Milan, Farke gave a positive update on his situation.

He said: “He has improved.

“Already back on the grass, I hope to have him back in the next week so he can be [involved] in the squad vs Everton.

“I hope desperately he can make it.”

Farke’s update is encouraging and suggests that he is confident that the 25-year-old will be back in time for the Blues game.

That will be a major helping hand for Farke and Co in their survival bid, if Bogle’s issue is not serious and he can be back in no time.
