Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles
Cash-strapped Sheffield Wednesday have slapped an £8m transfer fee on Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pierce Charles.
While Wednesday were keen to keep the talented young shotstopper, the Championship club are now considering cashing in on their most valuable playing asset.
Scottish giants Rangers, recently relegated Leicester City and Southampton – where Pierce’s brother Shea Charles plays – are all keen on the 20 year-old goalkeeper.
Charles started Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Leicester City on Saturday, with Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes on target for the Foxes.
Charles has played eight times for Northern Ireland and is likely to be Michael O’Neill’s starting goalkeeper for the forthcoming World Cup Qualifying campaign.
Meanwhile, Charles’ international teammate Isaac Price is on a high after scoring the winner for West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
West Brom’s Isaac Price
The Baggies defeated Blackburn Rovers 1-0 at the Hawthornes with Price scoring the only goal of the EFL Championship game.
He said: “It just sat up nicely for me. I won the second ball and just passed it into the net.”
Although Price is on the radar of several bigger clubs, the man with nine international goals is focused on helping West Brom achieve their ambition of winning promotion the Premier League this term.
Reflecting on the 1-0 win over Blackburn, Price said: “It’s a great feeling. The job was to get three points, how we did it didn’t really matter.
“It was a tough game and we didn’t play as much football as we would have liked, but we got the job done. I think we were the better team and could have scored two or three more.
“The second half was tough, as Blackburn were going for it but we dug in well.
“Sometimes winning that way is better for morale than a 4-0 win.
“We have a big game away to Wrexham next week, which is one to look forward too.”
