A campaign has been launched to raise awareness of and tackle violence and abuse against women and girls in Wales.
Newly released figures from Crimestoppers Wales show that 56% more reports linked to domestic abuse were made between April and June 2025 compared to the same period last year.
Separate Welsh Government data shows that violence against women and girls has increased by nearly 40% in just five years.
The campaign, which has been launched by the charity, aims to spotlight the ongoing issue of violence and abuse against women and girls across Wales which often goes unreported.
This takes many forms such as sexual harassment, domestic abuse, abuse of young girls, online abuse and physical violence.
Many victims in Wales are too afraid to reach out for help or to report it.
Key Facts
- At least one in 12 women in Wales is affected by violence each year, with the real number likely to be much higher.
- One in four women will experience domestic abuse during their lifetime. Domestic abuse can be physical, psychological, emotional, sexual, or financial.
- Children and young people in these households are also victims, often suffering trauma that can last a lifetime.
- Sexual harassment, abuse of children and domestic abuse can often have long lasting effect on the victim. It is never ok and is never the fault of the victim
“Women and girls in Wales have the right to feel safe, wherever they are – at home, at work, online, or in public,” said Hayley Fry, Regional Manager for Wales at Crimestoppers.
“No one should live in fear, especially from a partner, family member, or within their own home.
“If you are a victim, support is available – please reach out. And if you know someone at risk, your anonymous report to Crimestoppers could help change -or even save- a life.”
The charity is appealing to those who are victims of abuse to reach out for help and support from the many organisations that are available in Wales.
Victims of violence and abuse should not suffer in silence and there are many organisations that offer help and support, and they can be found on the Police Fire and Crime Commissioners website.
