Babar Azam continued his poor run in international cricket and was dismissed for a duck in the second ODI against the West Indies. The last few years have been tough on Pakistan stalwart, who also saw himself get dropped from the T20I side. With the Asia Cup lined up, there was a chance for Babar to make a case for selection, but two failures in as many innings have been a massive setback.

Babar has an impressive record in ODI cricket, with 6282 runs at an average of 55, including 19 centuries, but he has gone without scoring a hundred for nearly two years now. His last hundred came in the Asia Cup in 2023, where he scored 151 against Nepal. He showed glimpses of a return to form in the first ODI, where he scored 47 runs, helping Pakistan chase 281.

The former Pakistan captain was brutally trolled on social media after losing a wicket without troubling the scorers.

Meanwhile, the West Indies won the toss and opted to chase. There was a prediction of rain in the afternoon, which prompted the West Indies to bowl first. Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique got the team off to a solid start before Jayden Seales removed Ayub and Babar in the same over. Pakistan reached 60/2 in 16 overs before rain stopped play.

Before the start of play, Babar spoke about the challenges of batting in West Indies.

“I love to play against West Indies. They are a good team and have quality bowlers, love to bat against West Indies. Whenever we come here, we know the conditions are a bit challenging and it is slightly double-paced. I try to play my natural game always. Want to assess the conditons and build the partnerships, depending on the situation and in my view one of the top-order batters should bat deep and the other batters should bat around him,” said Babar Azam.
