After 508 appearances across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund, Mats Hummels’ career comes to an end. The 36-year-old announced his retirement in the summer but would play one last game for die Schwarzgelben, a 2-1 defeat against Juventus in their final pre-season friendly.
Hummels is one of Borussia Dortmund’s most decorated players, winning two Bundesliga titles and two German Cups, as well as winning the World Cup with Germany.
Ahead of Hummels’ farewell game for Borussia Dortmund, the club were selling a special jersey in the player’s honour which was available freely in the club shop.
Hummels – who received a raucous applause as he came out of the tunnel – captained the side for 18 minutes. His time at the club will certainly be looked fondly upon and he’ll certainly go down as one of the club’s greats during his two spells at the Westfalenstadion.
