Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) has announced the winners of the 2025 Crystal Kite Award.

Open to SCBWI authors, illustrators, and translators, the award is peer-judged to ‘recognise great books’. According to the organisers, ‘each winning title showcases exceptional storytelling, imaginative illustration, and creative excellence, representing the very best of children’s literature produced by SCBWI members around the world’.

The winning title for the Australia, New Zealand and Oceania region is Happy All Over (Emma Quay, ABC Books).

Quay is the author and illustrator of Rudie Nudie, My Sunbeam Baby, Shrieking Violet, Daddy’s Cheeky Monkey and Rudie Nudie Christmas. Happy All Over ‘celebrates the small joys to be found in the everyday’, said the publisher.

Glow written and illustrated by Ross Morgan (Walker Books) was named the region’s honour winner.

SCBWI executive director Sarah Baker said, ‘These awards are especially meaningful because they’re chosen by fellow creators – people who truly understand the heart and craft of making children’s books. The Crystal Kite Awards spotlight the incredible talent in our community and the powerful stories that inspire young readers globally.’

More information and the full list of winners are available on the SCWBI website.
