With no Indian cricket for a month after the England tour, speculation surrounds Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s ODI future. (BCCI Photo)
Both have retired from Tests and T20Is. Over the past six months, whether directly or indirectly, both have tended to suggest that they are focussed solely on the 2027 ODI World Cup in Africa.

A Dainik Jagran report claims the Australia series in October could be their last ODIs unless they commit to playing until 2027.

BCCI sources in the report suggest they may need to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier domestic 50-over competition, in December to remain in contention. This mirrors the Ranji Trophy participation rule before selection for the England tour earlier this year. (PTI Photo)
Given how established they have been in the Indian team for the past decade and a half, they haven’t played much domestic cricket. (BCCI Photo)
Virat Kohli’s last List A appearance for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was in 2010 on February 18 against Services in Gurgaon. Kohli was the captain of the team, and Delhi won that match by 113 runs. The skipper scored 16 (8) while batting at number five. (BCCI Photo)
The VHT has played a major role in promoting Kohli’s career. He scored 534 runs in seven matches in the 2008-09 season, the highest. His four centuries in the edition remained a record till 2022-23 when Narayan Jagadeesan broke it. (AFP image)
Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, made his last VHT appearance in the knockouts of the 2018 edition. He played just two matches, scoring an unbeaten 33 in the quarter-final against Bihar and 17 off 24 in the semi-final against Hyderabad. (Picture credit: ICC)
