German far-right leader Tino Chrupalla suggested Ukraine should cede territory to Russia to end the war, prompting a sharp rebuke from Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev, who posted on the social network X on August 11.
The ambassador dismissed the idea as “couch diplomacy” and challenged Chrupalla to give up his own region instead.
Tino Chrupalla, co-leader of Germany’s far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD), recently suggested that Ukraine should consider ceding part of its territory to Russia as a preferable alternative to Germany becoming further involved in the Russian war against Ukraine.
In an interview, Chrupalla questioned the feasibility of defeating Russia, describing the war as one that does not directly concern Germany.
“We may not like it when it comes to territorial concessions, but I always ask: what is the alternative? Do we want to fight, as some desire, until Russia is defeated? Do we really believe that we can defeat the largest nuclear power in the world and win this war, which is not ours?” he stated.

The Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, strongly condemned these remarks, labeling them “couch diplomacy of right-wing extremists, lovers of Russia, and xenophobes.” Makeiev emphasized that territorial concessions should only involve what genuinely belongs to those proposing them.
“Give away only what belongs to you or what you are connected with. For example, from your own family. From your own children. From your own home,” Makeiev declared.
Escalating the challenge to Chrupalla, Makeiev suggested that the politician should consult his own constituents in Görlitz regarding the prospect of surrendering their city—or even the entire state of Saxony—to Russia in the name of peace.
This exchange arises in the context of an upcoming meeting scheduled for August 15 in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Reports indicate that the White House is considering extending an invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
