vivo will be entering the Mixed Reality (MR) headset game very soon – it showed off the so-called vivo Vision MR headset at this year’s Boao Forum for Asia. Only a few select people have worn the device for now, but they have shared early impressions.

vivo product manager Han Boxiao commented on the comfort levels – the headset is reportedly very light and comfortable to wear. No specific numbers have been shared yet, but the vivo Vision was compared to the Apple AirPods Max. Those are not exactly light headphones at 386g (the Sony WH-1000XM6 are 254g). Still, the Apple Vision Pro is 600g-650g (depending on light seal and headband configuration), so anything close to the AirPods Max would be great for an MR headset.

CCTV host Zhu Guangquan also got to try out the vivo Vision. He provided fewer details on the headset, but the try-out session was well photographed, giving us a good look at the device. You can see a cable going out from the headset – this connects to an external battery to keep the weight on the user’s head low.

There are a couple of short clips of Zhu using the Vision, which show off the hand tracking controls. These controls are based on multiple front-facing cameras.

vivo has not set an official launch date for the Vision, but it should be unveiled by the end of the year. Zhu shared that it’s coming “soon” and that the headset is being tested internally by vivo employees.
