Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber lauded Manchester United loanee Radek Vitek after he played a key role in his side’s 4-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

The Robins made a storming start to the new Championship campaign by producing the standout result of the weekend in a rerun of one of last season’s play-off semi-finals in South Yorkshire.

Two goals from Scott Twine and one apiece from Ross McCrorie and Anis Mehmeti secured a winning start to the Struber era and ensured Vitek marked his debut by being on the right side of the scoreline.

Although the Robins flexed their muscles in the attacking department, the game was a close fought contest in the first half, meaning Vitek, who joined the Ashton Gate outfit on a season-long loan deal from United last month, made five saves.

Banking plenty of credit from the Robins supporters, who are quickly making their love for the 21-year-old known, Vitek also earned praise from Struber, who described him as a goalkeeper “with a high potential profile”.

“He did a really good job,” Struber told Bristol Live. “We can see his profile; he’s a highly talented player with a high potential profile.

“Of course, this is something special that he brings on the table, but it’s also important that we find the right consistency.

“He’s a young player; today he showed us a great performance, but now it’s the start, and this counts for every single player, consistency is, in the end, the driver for more.

“In this direction, I think we have to train in a very good level, we have to grow with all the things, and the standard will go higher and higher.”
