Meghan Markle has been urged to “stay away” from the UK when the day comes for Peter Phillips marries his now-fiancee Harriet Sperling. Although one expert has recently told the Express that it would look “petty” if Prince Harry chose to not attend and celebrate his cousin, royal fans have said that Meghan should not attend the nuptials if her husband were to make the decision to attend.
The couple, who have been dating since last year, announced their engagement on August 1. A statement was released to announce their happy news, which read: “Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.”
In a poll conducted by the Express, which ran between 11.40am on August 8 and 12pm on August 11, fans were asked if they think Meghan should travel back to the UK to attend the wedding.
Of the 6,931 who voted in the poll, a staggering 6,736 voted that Meghan should chose to “stay away”.
In contrast, just 152 people voted that she should attend, with another 43 people voting that they were unsure what the former working royal should do.
Taking to the comment section, one fan said: “She should never step back into the UK ever again, she obviously dislikes this country and everything about it… stay away!”
Another wrote: “NO, this would be a distraction from Peter Phillips and his new wife’s big day.”
Speaking about Harry and Meghan, another commented about why Peter would invite them – especially as they now live in the US.
They wrote: “Why would Peter want to invite those two? Harry might be his cousin but you can rest assured if she came she would want the limelight and think it’s all about her, Peter has been married before and it should be a low profile wedding.”
Some fans also commetned about whether an invitation will even be sent to Meghan. One fan clearly adamant, wrote: ‘There won’t be an invitation.”
