QPR kicked off their Championship season with a 1-1 draw with Preston last weekend, with new boss Julien Stephan searching for his first win at his new club.

Despite the season already getting underway, the Frenchman is still making adjustments to his squad and is interested in bringing in a new defender with injuries leading to a bit of a shortage on the opening day.

The Star are reporting that QPR are eying up a move for Sheffield United defender Rhys Norrington-Davies.

Ruben Selles’ first game in charge of the Blades ended in the worst possible start for the Spaniard, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Bristol City. It was also a tough afternoon for Norrington-Davies, who struggled, being at fault for one of the goals and getting subbed off in the 57th minute.

This performance has not deterred the R’s, who will hope to get a deal done for the Welshman before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

The 26-year-old has played for the Blades since 2021, featuring 66 times for the club since his arrival, including five appearances in the Premier League.

QPR have already signed centre-back Amadou Mbengue from Reading, who started his first game at Loftus Road last weekend.

QPR’s summer business

It has already been a busy summer at Loftus Road, on top of the arrival of Stephan.

QPR’s summer business has seen Mbengue, Rumarn Burrell, Kealey Adamson and more come through the door. They also beat the likes of Birmingham and Rangers to the signing of Kwame Poku, who stood out for Peterborough United last season.

They also managed to keep together their squad that finished 15th in the Championship last season, including the permanent signing of Karamoko Dembele, who played 23 times for the club last season.

The R’s will be optimistic of their chances this season and with the potential arrival of Norrington-Davies, they will hope to improve their defensive record. They continue their Championship season next weekend, when they travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford.

Another potential defensive departure for the Blades

Last week, Sheffield United saw the departure of key defender Anel Ahmedhodzic, who made the move to Dutch side Feyenoord.

They now look like they could face further defensive departures, Wrexham are interested in a move for Jack Robinson, who started on the bench in the Blades’ opening game.

With the additional potential departure of Norrington-Davies to QPR, the Blades could be left with just Nottingham Forest loanee Tyler Bindon as an option in centre back.

This would leave Selles to be forced to search for extra options in the position in the hope of getting their season off the mark.
