Residents were woken up in the middle of the night after the roof of a home suddenly burst into flames. Emergency services rushed to Platt Lane in Fallowfield following reports of the blaze in the early hours of the morning (August 11).
Firefighters and police were in attendance well into the afternoon while a cordon was in place. Images from the scene show the roof of a house appears to be severely damaged following the blaze.
Speaking to the M.E.N. about the moment the fire erupted, one resident said: “There was smoke everywhere. It went really high and then police and fire came.
“I have to say, the fire service has been fantastic dealing with this.”

According to locals, the affected house was a derelict building which is ‘known to the police’. “There’s been a lot of comings and goings in that house,” one person told the M.E.N.
“The house is known to the police because I’ve called them about it before.

“We’ve heard shouting and noise from there but this is probably the worst thing that’s happened there. There’s been funny goings on in there.”
Another resident said: “I drove past here at around 7.30am. There was smoke coming from the top of that house and fire we’re using a Cherry picker to get up there.
“I didn’t see any ambulance and the most important thing is nobody was hurt”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Shortly after 3.15am on Monday, August 11, five fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to attend a house fire on Platt Lane, Manchester.

“Crews arrived quickly and used two hose reels, breathing apparatus and a specialist scorpion appliance to extinguish the fire. Firefighters remain in attendance at this time.”
Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
