Bramhope & Carlton Parish Council is holding public meetings on Wednesday, August 20, to inform residents about the proposals for development in the newly published Leeds Local Plan.
The meetings are at Bramhope Village Hall on Old Lane at 4pm and 7pm.
A Parish Council spokesman said: “The 2025 Leeds Local Plan published in July identifies eight sites in Bramhope’s Green Belt that are to be considered for housing between 2026 and 2042.
“If every site was developed, that would mean over 1,100 new homes.
“The Parish Council has received very many enquiries from concerned residents as to what these proposals mean for Bramhope.
“The Leeds City Council website Have Your Say Today – Leeds Local Plan provides a very large amount of excellent detailed information, but the sheer volume of material is daunting.
“The Parish Council felt that it was essential that residents understand what the proposals mean for Bramhope and Carlton and how they can make their views known to Leeds City Council in the most effective way. The meeting is being held at two separate times on the same day to give residents a better chance of attending.
“Each meeting will explain the background Leeds Local Plan, review each of the proposed sites, detail the different ways in which residents can make their views known and identify themes for comments could influence whether a site is approved for development. There will then be a question and answer session in which Adel & Wharfedale Ward Councillors Billy Flynn and Barry Anderson will participate.”
Councillor John Howard added: “The Parish Council recognises the need for additional housing and business premises in the North West Leeds area.
“Equally important is that Bramhope and Carlton maintain their distinctive characters as village communities.
“Massive development would change this character as well as putting unacceptable strain on educational and health provision, on infrastructure and transport links. The Parish Council is concerned about the loss of green spaces, long demonstrated to have health benefits, and the impact on the environment and biodiversity.
“The Council would like as many residents as possible to comment. Your views can make a difference.
“In addition to the public meetings on Wednesday 20th August, there is detailed information on the Parish Council website. We are encouraging residents to comment not just on Bramhope & Carlton but on other sites in the plan.
“In particular the sites nominated in Adel and Cookridge raise the risk of the separation between Leeds and Bramhope disappearing”
