They were nominated to enter the Britain in Bloom Competition by Yorkshire in Bloom based upon their past successes.
The judging took place last week when two RHS Britain in Bloom judges visited Rawdon.

Phil Gomersall, Vice-chair, Rawdon in Bloom said: “They were shown around the many of the floral sites created by RIB. The tour included gardens at the entrances to the village, and the many planters and hanging baskets in the shopping area at Rawdon crossroads, not forgetting the Rawdon Tapestry and the many knitted letterbox displays created by the Rawdon Knitters.

“Also in the tour was a visit to Victory Garden Allotments where there are floral borders and planters at the entrance. The allotments are where most of the composting takes place, and the judges were enlightened to the various composting practices that take place by Amy a member of RIB. The RIB base is also situated on this site.
“They were introduced to some children from the scout and guide movement where our members have offered growing guidance and tuition to them.
“It all ended up at Billing View Sheltered Housing where again our members help with the maintenance of the floral beds.”

A welcome was given inside the Community Hall by Rawdon in Bloom Chair, Ken Duckels followed by a short, illustrated presentation on the work of the group by Vice-chair Phil Gomersall. This was part of the judging criteria.

A buffet lunch was provided during which one of the judges gave a short speech thanking all for the hospitality and welcome shown to them.
The results of the competition will be announced at the end of October.
Mr Gomersall added: “Thanks go to all who have helped or contributed in any way, it is good to know the community appreciate what we hope to achieve.”
