Tommy Fleetwood suffered yet another brutal near miss on the PGA Tour on Sunday, but he has the consolation of the unwavering support from his wife, Clare, and their family.
Fleetwood holds the unwanted record for the most money earned on the PGA Tour without winning a tournament, and that streak continued in agonizing fashion at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday. Fleetwood was the 54-hole leader at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, heading into Sunday’s final round.
The Englishman started sluggishly but found his groove on the back nine and held a two-shot lead with three holes remaining. But after a clumsy five at the par-five 16th, he bogeyed 17 and was leapfrogged by both Justin Rose and U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun. Rose would triumph in a dramatic playoff to send a resounding reminder of his class at the age of 45.

Fleetwood, the world No. 13, is a seven-time winner on the DP World Tour and has been a stalwart of Europe’s Ryder Cup team in recent years. But despite being among the most talented players on the planet, PGA Tour glory has eluded him.
Sunday’s T3 finish alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler followed the pain of the Travelers Championship in June, when Fleetwood blew a lead at the last and gifted victory to Team USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley.
On that excruciating day in Connecticut, Fleetwood was embraced by Clare after making his way off the 18th green. She is not only the 34-year-old’s husband but also his manager.

He met Clare through her work as a leading agent on tour, and despite a 23-year age gap, they soon fell in love before tying the knot in 2017. They share a son, Frankie, and she has two sons, Mo and Oscar, from a previous relationship.
Knowing he has the enduring support of his wife and family will bring plenty of comfort to Fleetwood as he continues his quest for PGA Tour glory, and he has made clear he has never been bothered by the significant age difference in his marriage.
“Oh, we definitely get comments,” he told The Sunday Times in 2023. “But it’s never been a thing to us. Clare actually looks very young for her age and I look old — it’s probably all that sun. She’s incredibly cool and I’m not cool at all, though I am quite mature for my age.

“I tell my kids all the time the biggest life skill you can have is finding a great woman. And I did manage that.”
Fleetwood’s next chance to end his winless run on the PGA Tour comes at the BMW Championship, which tees off at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland on Thursday.
The season-ending Tour Championship follows at East Lake in Atlanta seven days later, when Fleetwood and 29 rivals will compete for the FedEx Cup title.
