These six horses have trialled pleasingly in recent weeks and this week (14/8/25) they head back to the racetrack.
The Night Agent (3c Captain Crunch – The Orange Agent) Tr. Purdon/Phelan
Richly-bred 3YO ready to resume in a new campaign judging by his workout win at Pukekohe (5/8/25). Settled last of 6 in his heat but got carted up into the one-one over the last lap by a stablemate, challenged swiftly on straightening and proved too strong for his rivals. MR:2:05.8, 800m in 57.6, 400m in 27.0. That resumption comes this Friday at Auckland in Race 2 where he meets a couple of maidens ‘knocking on the door’. Small field and drawn outside his main opposition but top strike rate stable will have him ready to rumble.

Belle Neige (5m Love You – Miss Manitoba) Tr. Wallis/Hackett
Good Australian owned mare who has won five from 18 starts and $107k. Third up at Auckland this Friday in Race 5 and looks well placed over the 2700m which she will appreciate. Also the highest rated horse in the field. Won a workout at Pukekohe (1/7/25) very comfortably after racing handily throughout MR:2:08.1, 800m in 58.7 Beat subsequent Auckland winner Matty A (2 wins in July) on that occasion. Broke when resuming then touch unlucky fourth last start. Should be getting close to peak fitness and a big run expected.

Confederate (3g Bettors Delight – Hartofdixie) Tr. Purdon/Phelan
Another of the powerful stable getting ready to resume after very sound trial/workout form in recent weeks. The last workout at Pukekohe (5/8/25) had him racing handy before charging to the front at the 250m, found one better in Prince Lincoln but still close up nevertheless. MR:2:03.2, 800m in 59.0, 400m in 27.4. That resumption is this Friday at Auckland in Race 6 with the added bonus of drawing the ‘ace’ making him a live chance to feature. As a 2YO, he took on the likes of Marketplace and Got The Chocolates. One to follow over the coming weeks.

Mighty Flying Lou (4g Sweet Lou – Fleets Pocket) Tr. L Hanrahan
Won two trials during July, the last at Addington (30/7/25) where he swept up from midfield at the 400m to clearly outfinish his rivals without being extended fully. MR:2:01.8, 800m in 57.6, 400m in 28.1. Followed that up with a resuming third behind Action Major in a 1:56.5MR last week although did hang in over the final stages which didn’t help him getting closer, officially 2.5L from winner. Goes back to Addington this Friday (Race 1) and cops a handy draw over the 1980m. This looks a field well within his range. Has won the two races from 15 starts to date.

Oneroa (4m Bettors Delight – Beach Parade) Tr. B Butt
Finished last campaign with a strong maiden win (October 2024) and has since changed stables. Has returned in fine fettle judging by her two trial wins in recent weeks, the last at Rangiora (7/8/25) where she sat last until the 800m, showed impressive speed to loop the field and lead with 600m to run, kept up a strong run to stay in front in good time. MR:1:59.8, 800m in 57.1, 400m in 28.1. Goes to Addington this Friday in Race 9 where she has drawn nicely and after those trial wins, she must be accorded a strong chance of featuring.

Bar Louie (3g Sweet Lou – Motu Haughty Helen) Tr. S & A Telfer
Handy horses can win two on end, good horses can win three, four wins in a row are the domain of very smart horses and Bar Louie very quickly closing in on that platform. Still only a 3YO but has won six of only 11 lifetime and gets his chance at a four-peat at Kurow this Sunday in Race 7 (Kurow Cup) against a very strong field of mid rating pacers. Standing start hopefully won’t be a problem. Has won two trials during July, one of those at Ashburton (22/7/25) where he ran his last half in 55 secs, 400m in 25.8 and defeated stablemate Alta Meteor (by a nose) who subsequently came out and won impressively last week at Addington.
