Departmental Electoral Courts (TED) continue this week with the training of 204,156 citizens randomly selected as election officials for the upcoming general elections on August 17. This training process will run uninterrupted until the day before the vote, with the aim of ensuring the proper functioning of polling stations across the country.

According to data from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), the distribution of election officials by department is as follows: La Paz (54,594), Santa Cruz (54,690), Cochabamba (38,076), Potosí (14,262), Tarija (10,884), Chuquisaca (10,890), Oruro (10,158), Beni (8,238), and Pando (2,364).

Each polling station will have six polling station members chosen through a public draw and appointed via a memorandum issued by the corresponding Departmental Electoral Tribunal (TED).

Polling staff is responsible for the organization and voting operations at the polling station. “They play a key role in ensuring a transparent, orderly, impartial, and reliable electoral process,” emphasized the TSE.

Article 55 of the Law of the Plurinational Electoral Body states that an election official is a citizen who serves as the highest authority at the polling station and must ensure that election day runs smoothly. For this reason, selected citizens are required to attend the training courses organized by the TED.
