Leeds United are interested in a move for Brighton midfielder Facundo Buonanotte this summer.

Daniel Farke is hoping to add further attacking depth to his squad in the closing weeks of the window, with Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss and Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz also under consideration.

Leeds had looked set to sign Igor Paixao earlier in the window, but the Brazilian decided instead to sign for Ligue 1 club Marseille.

Decision-makers at Elland Road had initially hoped to re-sign Manor Solomon from Tottenham, and still could, with the winger pushing for an exit from North London.

Solomon was among Leeds’ most important and best-performing players last season.

The midfielder scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists in the Championship, often being the man looked to when Farke’s side needed intervention.

But Solomon is yet to be replaced this summer, with several transfer targets looking likely to end up elsewhere.

Buonanotte could be available, however, with Brighton prepared to sanction another loan for the 20-year-old this season, according to the Daily Mail (13 August, page 65).

Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have both enquired about the Argentine, but the Seagulls would prefer to keep him in the Premier League.

Leeds are among a cohort of top-flight clubs interested in a move, also including West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.

Buonanotte showed promise for Leicester City

Buonanotte was among the few players to emerge well from Leicester City’s Premier League relegation last season.

The midfielder spent the season on loan and managed seven direct goal contributions in the league for the Foxes.

The 20-year-old is a technical dribbler and a progressive passer, but, interestingly, his best performance on a statistical level comes within his defensive contribution.

Stats via FBref

Buonanotte dominates his positional peers among the top five European leagues, ranking in the 99th percentile for tackles, tackles won, and blocks.

The Argentine’s pressing prowess could be exactly what Farke is looking for, with Leeds hoping to unsettle their opposition, chiefly at Elland Road.

And if the Whites can secure a loan, they would be making a very low-risk signing, with the potential benefits huge.
