A person has suffered life-changing injuries after being hit by a train at Bristol Temple Meads station.
The incident occurred yesterday (August 12) at around 3.30pm, when emergency services were called after a person was injured on the tracks.
All services were held at the major station, and delays remained for several hours. The person was taken to hospital for their injuries to be assessed.
And this morning, the British Transport Police confirmed: “The injuries are considered to be life-changing, but not life-threatening.”
It comes after a spokesperson for the Transport Police previously said on Tuesday: “Officers were called to the line near Bristol Temple Meads railway station at around 3.30pm today (12 August) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to hospital with injuries that are still being assessed. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
A statement from Great Western Railway said at the time: “Unfortunately, a person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked. It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop.
“If you are onboard one of the services in this incident and have been affected by this incident or know someone else who needs support, there is always someone to talk to. Contact a Samaritan on 116 123 for free, any time, on any phone. Help is only a phone call away.”
All lines at the railway station had reopened by 6pm, although there were residual delays for several hours.
