LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (7News) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers said they arrested another alleged drug mule at Washington Dulles International Airport after they found nearly two dozen pounds of marijuana in someone’s luggage headed for the United Kingdom.

Octavious Lamar Dozier, 27, of Atlanta, was charged with felony transporting a controlled substance into the Commonwealth and felony possession with intent to distribute after being arrested by Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police (MWAA) officers on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

CBP officials said Dozier was trying to board a flight to Dublin, Ireland, with a connecting flight to Leeds, England, when border patrol officers inspected his checked bag and found 14 vacuum-sealed packages inside a hard-sided suitcase.

The packages reportedly had 23 pounds of weed that was valued at around $90,000. Border Patrol agents said the packages would have been worth two to three times more in Europe.

Dozier was stopped by officers at the departure gate and was escorted to CBP’s inspection station, where the packages were tested and confirmed to contain marijuana.

Dozier’s arrest followed two days after MWAA police busted a Las Vegas woman for allegedly having 59 pounds of marijuana in her luggage as she was bound for Frankfurt, Germany.

CBP said it continues to see a trend of criminal organizations attempting to move marijuana to Europe via passenger baggage and air cargo, where high-quality cannabis can fetch significant profits.

“If you smuggle drug loads for criminal organizations, you will be caught and face criminal consequences,” said Christine Waugh, CBP’s Area Port Director for the Washington, D.C., area. “Don’t be a fool and do jail time for uncaring gangs that see you as cheap, disposable labor.”
