This Friday night (August 15), Irish rockers, Fontaines D.C. will play their biggest Manchester show to date at Wythenshawe Park, to tens of thousands of gig-goers.

The Irish outfit last played in Manchester in November, performing three night at Aviva Studios. Last August, their fourth album, Romance, garnered them Grammy nominations and propelled them to huge outdoor shows, one of which is at the 26,000-capacity Wythenshawe Park this weekend.

Live From Wythenshawe Park has been running for a few years now. Last summer year saw a double-header weekend with Blossoms and New Order on the bill over the August Bank Holiday, while Noel Gallagher kicked off the series in 2023.

Earlier this summer, Fontaines D.C. – comprised of Grian Chatten, Tom Coll, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III and Carlos O’Connell – took to Finsbury Park to play a huge summer show, their biggest to date. Since then they’ve played a number of shows and festivals across the UK and Europe.

Joining Fontaines will be a number of support acts, starting off with The Murder Capital, an Irish post-punk band formed in Dublin in 2018.

Mercury Prize winners English Teacher will play next led by vocalist Lily Fontaine, guitarist Lewis Whiting, drummer Douglas Frost, and bassist Nicholas Eden.

And playing just before Fontaines will be Belfast hip hop trio Kneecap, the group that have created their own genre of Irish punk rap, melding the Irish and English language with intoxicating energy and potent lyrics.
