With Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to sign on the dotted line at Leeds United before the end of the week, Daniel Farke will now have three strikers to choose from come Monday night.

Joel Piroe is likely to remain his first pick for the clash against Calvert-Lewin’s old side, Everton, as Leeds make their return to the Premier League after a two-year hiatus. Lukas Nmecha may even be used first.

Calvert-Lewin’s condition is under the microscope, with the England international renowned for his injury issues. Of course, having left Everton on a free transfer, he has not had a pre-season to get prepared.

It may well be a week or two before Farke can consider using Calvert-Lewin from the start, but there is every chance Calvert-Lewin may be used off the bench. But who ends the season as Leeds’ top scorer?

Last season’s Championship golden boot winner was £16m signing Piroe and given he has four goals in pre-season, it is likely that the Dutchman starts. There is no doubt about his finishing in a Leeds shirt.

But when speaking to TalkSPORT on Wednesday following the news that Calvert-Lewin is set to sign on at Leeds, Murphy backed Calvert-Lewin to be Leeds’ top scorer during 2025-26 if the striker remains fit.

Alongside Simon Jordan, Murphy said if Calvert-Lewin could be Leeds’ top scorer in their attempts to survive the drop: “If Calvert-Lewin stays fit, I imagine he will be their top scorer. I hope he does.”

Following Leeds’ home clash against Everton at Elland Road, Leeds then take on Arsenal at The Emirates before returning to Elland Road to host a Newcastle side that could well be without Alexander Isak.

There is no doubt that Piroe remains likeliest to score the most goals. He did last season and while he has never played in the Premier League, Daniel Farke said Piroe was the best finisher in the Championship.

Lukas Nmecha may well come in to the side if Piroe struggles to cope with the Premier League, with this being a big step up for Leeds’ no.10. Nmecha played in the Bundesliga regularly and will be used to it.

But if, as Murphy says, Calvert-Lewin can stay fit, then there is every chance that he will be the man to score the goals that fire Leeds to safety. Anton Stach, Willy Gnonto and Dan James will surely chip in too.
