A popular indie rock band is back with its first new song in nearly a decade.
The Temper Trap released “Lucky Dimes” on Wednesday, marking the Australian music group’s first original single since 2016.
“Good to know that 9 years after the last one, we still have something to say,” said singer-guitarist Dougy Mandagi. “It’s been an absolute pleasure creating this record and we can’t wait to share it with you, not to relive the past but to write the next chapter.”
According to Billboard, the new song, produced by Grammy nominee Styalz Fuego (Charli XCX, Troye Sivan) features a “heavier edge… thanks to frenetic guitarwork and thumping percussion.” The band also released a music video directed by fellow Melbourne creative Joey Clough.
The Temper Trap formed in Melbourne in 2005 and scored an international hit with 2008’s “Sweet Disposition,” which was featured prominently in the 2009 movie “500 Days of Summer.” The track reached the top 20 on the U.S. rock charts and now has more than 775 million streams on Spotify, where the group averages 15 million monthly listeners.
Other popular songs include “Love Lost” (famously sampled by rapper Mac Miller on his song of the same name), “Fader” and “Science of Fear” (featured on “The Vampire Diaries” and other TV shows and video games).
The Temper Trap has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to several remixes of “Sweet Disposition,” including new versions by John Summit & Silver Panda and Lost Frequencies. The soaring tune was also named one of triple j’s Hottest 100 Australian Songs last month.
