King Charles just made an announcement about Balmoral Castle that his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, might not have been thrilled about.
Last year, he made the controversial decision to open the castle for tours to the public, which is something he plans on resuming for the summer of 2025. The news was revealed on the official Instagram page for Balmoral Castle.
Captioned with, “Don’t miss your chance to book a Balmoral Castle Interior Tour in 2025! Additional tickets have been released for May and June, but availability is limited. Following the historic opening of the castle’s doors in the summer of 2024—for the first time since its completion in 1855—we are once again delighted to offer exclusive private tours, guided by our experienced team.”
As Hello! Magazine reported, Queen Elizabeth II preferred to keep Balmoral castle private. It served as a beloved retreat for her and her family for decades where they could escape from the pressures of day-to-day life in England.
Whether or not the Queen would’ve given her blessing to open the castle to the public will never be known. However, visitors couldn’t be more delighted by the news.
One person said, “I’m so looking forward to visiting your stunning castle in July. It’ll be like a busman’s holiday for me, as I work at Highclere Castle, famed for being Downton Abbey & other things too 😊”
Another added, “We will be there 2026 as part of our globe trotting tour 😎.”
For those who are lucky enough to visit, per the Instagram’s description, they can expect to:
“Journey through history, from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s purchase of the Balmoral Estate to the present day. You’ll have the rare opportunity to view a selection of rooms within the Castle that are still used by Their Majesties The King and Queen, as well as other members of the Royal Family.”
(BRB, booking a trip to the Scottish Highlands.)
