Construction of the new Paisley Grammar School is “slightly beyond the halfway point” as Renfrewshire Council issues its latest update on the major project.
The local authority has confirmed the job remains “on track” for completion in the summer of next year and said “progress is evident” at the site in Renfrew Road.
That’s according to a learning estate programme update that has been included in a report to next week’s education and children’s services policy board meeting.
Councillor Eddie Devine, who represents Paisley Southeast, said: “It’s good to hear that construction has passed the halfway point and the project is still on track.
“Naturally, I hope it continues that way and it’s finished on time but I welcome the progress and hope it will be a great facility for pupils and staff when that time comes.”
The new school is set to be a modern energy-efficient building with two full-size sports pitches, outdoor learning and social spaces and a 300-seat theatre.
There will also be a fitness suite, dance studio, teaching kitchens, drama studio and music suites.
It is expected to facilitate a range of ways to learn and teach, with open spaces for group work as well as traditional classrooms and will have facilities for use by the wider community outwith the school day.
The development is taking place on land next to the former Chivas administration building and will replace its ageing namesake in the town’s Glasgow Road.
The report, which will be considered at the board on Thursday, said: “The project to deliver a new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus continues to deliver on track and is scheduled to complete in summer 2026.
“Construction is slightly beyond the halfway point now, and the progress is evident when witnessing the current stage of construction.
“The building now features a large amount of its external cladding, bringing the building closer to its finished look.
“From an internal perspective, work is beginning on the fit out with some areas now at the point of having aspects such as flooring and fixed furniture such as cabinets and worktops.
“The formation of the external pitches has commenced and will soon be visible.”
