The U.S. Embassy in Tunisia is pleased to announce the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) scholarships for young educators to teach Arabic and study in the United States during the academic year 2026-2027.
The FLTA is a nine-month, non-degree program for early career teachers to teach Arabic at colleges and universities in the United States while simultaneously taking courses in American culture. Teachers of English language, American Studies, media, and American/English literature are encouraged to apply.
Eligible applicants must:
· Be Tunisians and reside in Tunisia at the time of application
· Possess the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree by June 1, 2026 (License + 1st year of MA degree) with a good academic record
· Are an early career teacher (with no more than seven years of teaching experience)
· Have a sincere interest in teaching Arabic language and culture to students in the U.S.
· Demonstrate fluency in English
· Demonstrate proficiency in speaking, writing, and teaching Modern Standard Arabic
· Able to work creatively and be self-reliant while being willing to work cooperatively as part of a team with faculty, staff, and students
· Flexible and have a willingness to learn
· Adaptable to living in rural or urban areas
· Clearly demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity, and professionalism
· Not hold U.S. citizenship; dual citizens are not eligible for the program participation
