West Ham United are no longer pursuing a transfer deal for Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles.
The Hammers were interested in the Northern Irishman’s signing from the Championship outfit, but it looks like he’s no longer a target for them.
Mads Hermansen has moved to the London Stadium from Leicester City this summer, but the Irons are looking to add more options in the shot-stopping department.
While the Sheffield Wednesday youngster has been on the East London outfit’s radar, it looks like they will move on to other targets.

While the Hammers made a bid for Charles, they’ve now walked away from a potential deal, according to Mike McGrath.
The Telegraph journalist reports on X on 15 August that the Irons are no longer interested in signing the 20-year-old after they received no answer from the Owls regarding their offer.
It’s been claimed that Strasbourg have now entered the race for the Northern Ireland goalkeeper’s signature, with a move to the London Stadium off the table.
With Hermansen already at Graham Potter’s disposal, it seems like the East London club had an eye on their future as they wanted to bring Charles to E20.

Alphonse Areola going nowhere from London Stadium
Alphonse Areola’s future at the London Stadium is uncertain, but it would arguably have been over with the addition of a new goalkeeper.
As things stand, it seems like Hermansen will be the number one at the Hammers, but the former Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper will be expected to compete for his place in the starting lineup.
Had the Irons signed Charles, the Irons certainly would’ve had no need to keep the Frenchman on their books, and it wouldn’t have been surprising to see them cash in on him.
Potter’s goalkeeping options at the London Stadium
While West Ham have Wes Foderingham and Krisztian Hegyi in their ranks, they may not be good enough to be the backup goalkeepers at the London Stadium.
Areola is still undoubtedly an essential part of Potter’s group for the 2025/26 season, but that could’ve potentially changed if the Hammers were able to get a deal over the line for Charles.
The 32-year-old French goalkeeper may want to leave the Irons after seemingly losing his place in the pecking order, but the shot-stopper is undoubtedly going nowhere for now.
