A busy Glasgow has been locked down by police amid an ongoing incident this afternoon.

Old Shettleston Road has been closed in both directions between Fernan Street and Kenmore Street since around 3.45pm, with uniformed officers and marked vans sealing off the scene.

Police tape has been strung across the carriageway beside a block of flats near Kenmore Street.

In a picture taken from the scene, several police officers stand guard beside patrol cars blocking the road, while an ambulance is parked further up the street. Two orange traffic cones mark the start of the closure as officers speak with one another outside the flats.

Locals told the Daily Record they had heard a stabbing may have taken place, with rumours spreading on Facebook, however, Police Scotland have not confirmed the nature of the incident.

One eyewitness said: “There was a lot of police on the scene. I saw an ambulance driving away at around 3.45pm.”

Council roads bosses warned drivers to stay clear of the area, saying: “Due to an ongoing police incident, Old Shettleston Road is currently closed to all traffic between Fernan Street and Kenmore Street. Road users are advised to avoid this area and to seek an alternative route. Delays should be expected.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 3.15pm on Friday, 15 August, 2025, officers were called to a report of an assault on Old Shettleston Road, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended, and a 24-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“Old Shettleston Road is closed at Fernan Street and Kenmore Street and motorists are asked to avoid the area.”
