A Wirral man has been arrested on suspicion of stalking after a mum and her baby were “filmed in the park.” At 12.13pm a woman called police to say that a man had been following and filming her as she was pushing her baby in a pram round Birkenhead Park this afternoon, Friday, August 15.

Officers attended and the suspect, a 34-year-old white British man born on the Wirral, was arrested on suspicion of stalking. He has been taken to a police station where he is being questioned, police said.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out.

Police said they are aware ‘there is incorrect information circulating online’ and ‘would urge people not to speculate in relation to this incident.’

Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: “We understand the distress and concern experienced by the mother who had taken her baby to Birkenhead Park and can reassure the local community that this incident will be thoroughly investigated and we treat all incidents such as this extremely seriously.

“If you were in the area and saw a man acting suspiciously in Birkenhead Park, or have any information or footage which could assist our investigation, please come forward.

“We have proactive uniformed and plain clothes patrols in the park and surrounding area to ensure that local community can enjoy the park safely.”
