A quaint Scottish village known as the ‘most picturesque’ in the entire country should definitely be on your radar if you’re planning an autumn getaway.

If you’re eager to explore more of Scotland with a weekend trip, there are countless destinations to choose from – each boasting its own unique charm and character.

However, if you’re seeking a picture-perfect location, then St Abbs should be at the top of your list. This coastal gem in the Scottish Borders was previously recognised by photography experts at ParrotPrint as one of the most stunning places in the UK, and was the only Scottish location to make the cut.

St Abbs is renowned for its rugged Berwickshire coastline and abundant wildlife, with a popular walking trail leading to the St Abb’s Head Nature Reserve. The striking lighthouse, volcanic cliff top and unspoiled view across the North Sea will undoubtedly wash away any stress.

Regardless of whether you visit on a sunny day or not, you can easily spend hours on the coastline, watchin and listening to the thousands of seabirds nesting in the towering cliffs.

The beauty extends beyond the cliff’s edge too, thanks to the wildflowers that cover the grassland, giving you the sense of being somewhere truly remote and untouched.

One of the main attractions of this village is the small harbour, bustling with local fishing and tour boats ferrying tourists and divers.

It’s also a brilliant spot for a nature stroll – particularly around the lighthouse, which has earned rave reviews from visitors on TripAdvisor.

Outlining the perfect way to spend time in St Abbs, one reviewer commented: “Starting at the National Trust for Scotland Car Park take the short walk to St Abbs before starting the Lighthouse Walk. A picturesque fishing village with lots of photo opportunities.

“Walk back towards the car park and follow the signs for the coastal path/lighthouse. Spectacular scenery all along the 5 mile walk to the lighthouse and back to the car park. Reward yourself with a cup of tea and piece of cake at The Old Smiddy situated just by the car park. A great way to spend the morning or afternoon.”

A ParrotPrint representative said: “The UK has some of the prettiest villages in the world, but sometimes it’s easy to forget the beauty we have right on our doorstep.

“Whether you are looking to immerse yourself in nature on rugged coastal walks or take in the late summer sun amidst the chocolate-box charm of quaint British village life, these gorgeous destinations won’t disappoint.”
