Summer’s coming to a close with a new moon that will definitely shake things up.
The new moon in Virgo will take place at 11:06 PM P.T. on Aug. 22. A second new moon in Virgo will hit about a month later, on Sept. 21, which means we could experience news from that eclipse a month early.
The themes this eclipse brings, celebrity astrologer Kyle Thomas tells PEOPLE, could become more prominent (or fated and destined) in the months to come. The actions taken now might manifest near the lunar eclipse in Virgo in March next year.
“The energy of this elemental Earth sign will be quite prominent in our lives at this time,” Thomas explains of Virgo’s impact, noting that the zodiac sign aligns with daily routines, responsibilities and employment.
“It rules our work-related projects, as well as coworkers, staff and people that report to us,” Thomas explains, adding that physical fitness, diet, health and even pets can all come into the spotlight at this time.

Thomas warns of the somewhat shocking energies this new moon can bring. “Some people could win big while others lose big,” he explains. “This is because the new moon is exactly square Uranus, which foretells accidents, sudden twists of fate, random events, and shocking news.”
The bad news is this can make you feel “more impulsive, reckless and anxious,” Thomas says. But for some people, this can be a good time to align with a soulmate or grow in their current connections.
If you want to put some extra work in when channeling this new moon, Thomas says making something physical can help, whether that’s cooking, gardening or doing crafts.

“If you’d like to pursue creative endeavors, hobbies or fertility matters, the stars are now aligned,” Thomas adds.

It’s nesting season, Gemini. Thomas says, “It’s time to get settled. The new moon will be encouraging you to focus on domestic, home or family matters.”
That means focusing on where you call home, whether that’s by doing some deep cleaning, renovating or redecorating. Plus, he says, “If you’d like to move or get involved in real estate, use the time now.”
