Google appears to be preparing a dedicated “projects” feature for Gemini, following the trend set by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and xAI’s Grok. This upcoming functionality is designed for users who want to organize their work, research, or creative tasks within specific project spaces. According to recent leaks, Gemini’s implementation will allow users to:

  1. Add and manage files within each project.
  2. Edit project-specific instructions.
  3. Access a research button directly from the interface.

A notable aspect in the leaked screenshots is a prominent panel on the right side, which provides an easy way to upload documents and files. The in-app description notes that Gemini will be able to reference these files in ongoing conversations, as well as use them as source material for generating new documents and code.

The ability to manage multiple files and tie them directly to AI conversations reflects the growing demand for more contextual and persistent workspaces within AI tools, especially among professionals, students, and teams dealing with complex projects or research. Given that Gemini models already support large context windows, this approach could allow users to work with bigger datasets or multi-document workflows in a seamless way.

However, there is no confirmed launch date. Despite the UI appearing mostly complete, the feature may remain under development for some time, as Google has sometimes taken a cautious approach with major product upgrades. TestingCatalog will continue to monitor for any official updates or broader rollout hints as Google progresses with Gemini’s project-based features.
