In the Yorkshire Dales, there’s a “charming” hamlet surrounded by some of the most “breathtaking scenery in the country”.
Thwaite is located at the top of Swaledale between Muker and Keld and is said to offer visitors a “true taste of rural England”.
As well as its picturesque stone cottages, it boasts “rolling hills and natural springs”.
Yorkshire Dale village offers ‘true taste of rural England’
Welcome to Yorkshire reveals one of the highlights of Thwaite is its “stunning natural beauty”.
It shares: “Thwaite is the perfect destination for those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
“Visitors can explore the park’s rugged hills, deep valleys, and cascading waterfalls, or simply relax and take in the stunning views.”
It adds: “Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a family-friendly holiday, Thwaite is the perfect destination for anyone who loves the great outdoors and the simple pleasures of rural life.”
Although Thwaite is recognised for its traditional stone-built houses and barns, it’s also the home to the Kearton brothers, according to Dales Discoveries.
Richard and Cherry possibly became the world’s first professional wildlife photographers in the 1890s.
In fact, Sir David Attenborough has reportedly spoken “admiringly of their pioneering work”, which he says inspired him to pursue a career in wildlife photography and film.

‘Best’ walk in Thwaite that passes ‘beautiful meadows’
The small village is also a popular starting point for walks and hikes in the surrounding countryside and is situated on the Coast to Coast and the Pennine Way.
One of the best walks on Thwaite’s doorstep is the 8.5-mile round trip walk to Muker via Keld, Holiday Home Yorkshire explains.

The travel experts continued: “The route contains some sections of the famous Pennine Way and Coast to Coast National trails. On route you can pass through the pleasant village of Keld before finishing in Muker.
“We love this walk as it runs parallel to the River Swale and passes through some beautiful meadows, however, beware that opportunities for refreshments in Keld are limited so we recommend to take your own refreshments.
“You’ll be pleased that there is a pub and cafe in Muker, making it a great place to refresh and spend some time.”
