Morale boost that retail venue gave 1990s Belfast city centre remembered as it celebrates birthday

It might not have seemed like it at the time, but 35 years ago today Belfast took a major step towards a brighter future when the city centre’s flagship shopping mall opened its doors.
That was, and still is, the view of Sir Reg Empey who as Lord Mayor opened CastleCourt to eager new customers on April 19 1990.
